How to Clean Your Bathroom Accessories

Unlike other living spaces in your home, your bathroom is highly exposed to dirt and grime. It becomes essential then to keep this space clean. Homeowners generally focus on sinks, toilets, shower fixtures and bathtubs but tend to neglect bathroom accessories like the handles, faucets, brush holders, etc. These accessories can also collect bacteria and dirt, which can contribute to making the bathroom dirty. The following tips will guide you on how to clean and maintain your bathroom accessories flawlessly.

Toothbrush Holder

Germs can easily harm you via the toothbrush. It is crucial to clean your toothbrush and its holder. This may sound a bit odd, but the best practice to clean your toothbrush holder is to use a denture cleaning solution, as it’s created for oral use and to eliminate bacteria. Just soak the toothbrush holder in the denture cleaning solution and rinse it with clean water later.

Toilet Brush and Holder

First, rinse your toilet brush and holder in hot water. Next, let it soak in a solution of boiling water and approx. two cups of vinegar or bleach for about an hour. Then use a dishwashing detergent to scrub off any leftover dirt between the bristles – an old toothbrush will do the trick.. Lastly, lay out the toilet brush and the holder to dry out completely.

Shower Curtain

Put your shower curtain in the washing machine along with some towels, and add half a cup of baking soda during the wash cycle. While in the rinsing mode, put in half a cup of vinegar. Finally, air dry the shower curtain to avoid damage by tumble drying. By regularly washing your shower curtain, you will ensure to prevent the growth of mould.

Taps and Handles

If you have noticed a buildup of limescale around your taps or if the fixtures have begun to look dull, then vinegar is the perfect solution to this problem. Create a solution of equal parts of warm water and white vinegar,  dip a cloth in it, and wipe the taps and handles. If the buildup is tough to clean, then wrap the solution soaked cloth around it and let it sit for an hour. Later wash it with clean water and wipe it with a dry cloth to prevent rusting. You can further clean the joints with an old toothbrush. Moreover, vinegar can also make the taps appear shiny, sparkly and brand new.
